You also really get to see how stage Dan Oh and shadow Dan Oh are entirely different from each other. She really was just a sixteen-year-old girl still had the rest of her life ahead of her. It was sad to Dan Oh look up to the moon in and admit she truly does not want to die. Despite knowing that she does not have long to live, she always keeps up her bright personality and constantly reassures Haru. However, a strong character trait that Eun Dan Oh had was that despite her heart condition, she still had an incredibly positive outlook on life. Her strong resilience goes a long way, particularly in episode four, when she refuses to give up when finding her mystery saviour by touching all the male’s backs in the school. ![]() Eun Dan Oh was an entertaining character that develops on-screen as she goes from being confused about the jumps in time, shocked when she finds she is just an extra in the comic and finally forges her own destiny. Kim Hye Yoon does an excellent job of portraying her character on-screen with her exaggerated facial expressions and high pitched voice. CHARACTERS EUN DAN OHĮun Dan Oh is the energetic and determined character who is eager to go against and change her tragic set up. The story slowly unfolds and and more and more information comes to light about Haru and Eun Dan Oh by drawing parallels to a historical comic book that they were previously featured in. There is also an air of mystery in this drama as Dried Squid refuses to share information about what he knows about the comics and you don’t know who the writer is. The tropes are great fun to watch on screen, and as characters become aware of there scripted lines, it becomes highly comedic and entertaining to watch! While stage focuses on the love triangle between Oh Nam Ju, Yeo Ju Da and Lee Do Hwa the shadow has an additional love triangle between Eun Dan Oh, Baek Kyung and Haru that is twice as intense and engaging. Of course, you also can’t forget A3, who is dubbed as the most popular group at Seuli High School. Oh Nam Ju takes the male lead, Yeo Ju Da the female lead and Lee Do Hwa who takes the tragic second male lead. It’s undoubtedly a cringe-fest with there scripted lines that even the self-aware characters find themselves recoiling! The drama also has a lot of typical character tropes embedded inside. However, I’d be wary of the cheesiness that the comic book plotline has, especially between the main characters Oh Nam Ju and Yeo Ju Da. The drama also engages you with multiple character plot-lines and arcs. You will find yourself delving into the world of comics and will come to understand the difference between each of the characters stage and shadow persona. On the other hand, shadow is anything that happens outside the stage or in between the scenes. ![]() The stage is where characters are compelled by the writer to act according to the script. In the world of comics, you are either in stage or shadow. ![]() The world of comics is also relatively easy to understand as character Dried Squid not only makes it easy for the characters to understand but for the viewers too. The premise is fresh, and it was certainly interesting to see characters finally gain self-awareness, which allows them to find their true self. While it may take a while to warm up to the drama, you’ll find that you grasp onto the concept of it rather quickly. But what Dan Oh does not know is that although she is changing the story, there is always a price to pay Believing that he could be the answer to changing her fate, the duo work together to forge their own destiny, and soon other characters begin to become self-aware of the comic universe. Dan Oh’s strong determination to break free from the writer’s control allows her to then meet a nameless student number 13 and later names him Haru (Rowoon). She decides she must find her true first love opposed to Baek Kyung (Lee Jae Wook) who the writer chose to pair with her. What’s worse is that Dan Oh discovers that she is only an extra with a heart condition and is expected to die soon! Dan Oh refuses to let the writer decide her fate and instead embarks on a mission to forge her own destiny. She soon learns that the writer controls everything and that their fates are already set in stone. ![]() The lighthearted Korean drama aired from October to November 2019 with 32 episodes in total that were 30 minutes long opposed to the usual 1-hour slots that the majority of Korean Dramas have.Įxtraordinary You follows the story of high schooler Eun Dan Oh (Kim Hye Yoon) who one day discovers that she and everyone else is part of a comic book called Secret.
